Exploring the impact of the 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship win on young girls in England.

The purpose of the study is to explore the impact of the 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship win on young girls in England from the point of view of coaches, head of football clubs, parents, young female footballers, journalists, professional female footballers and the Football Association.

It will aim to examine the impacts of the success of the England women’s team in influencing young girls to participate in football, the importance of role-models and changing their perceptions and aspirations, as well as their physical and mental well-being.

Additionally, the study will examine the growth of media coverage on women’s football in England and the infrastructure put in place in terms of accessibility and opportunities.

I'm seeking diverse participants from the world of women's football in England. Specifically, I am looking for girls over the age of 16 who actively play football, as well as parents of girls involved in the sport and hearing from coaches or managers of women’s football teams who can spare 15 minutes for a survey.

Furthermore, I'm reaching out to journalists or individuals working in media related to women’s football, professional women footballers, and personnel employed within the England Football Association and/or the Women's Super League for 30-minute interviews.

This research will form part of my dissertation for my postgraduate degree in International Child Rights and Development.

Language use in multilingual football teams in England

I am interested in what languages are used in what settings and by whom and what players and staff think of this. This research has not been done before in the UK. Therefore, this is an untapped area.

I hope that the results of this study will have a long-term impact on player welfare and care, as there is evidence of a link between language skills and settling in (and subsequent impact on performance).

The results from my study would be of use to teams for multiple purposes, including to anticipate where there could potentially be communication issues for new transfers and how to preempt them, and to perfect communication amongst teammates and with staff, which could assist with comprehension of tactics and on-pitch communications.

I am currently recruiting participants (primarily former and current players, coaches, medical staff at PL and Championship clubs) to be interviewed and/or observed.

Levelling the Playing Field: Exploring Young Women's Participation in Football in London

I am looking into what it is like for young women playing football in London today. Football represents a brilliant game, and despite increased recent recognition of the professional game, it has a complicated history which unfortunately has seen inequality in participation. This research is looking to discover the current and past experiences of young women playing at school, college, and their local club.

I am looking to speak with young women living in the Greater London area, who play regularly as part of their local club, school or college, have played in parts of their childhood or earlier childhood, and are aged 16 - 35 years. The ask is a 1 to 1.5 hour 121 interview or group interview (121 or group depending on their age). All 121 interviews will be via zoom and any group interviews will be held in person.

This research should help to better understand the experiences of young women today, and show what private and public organisations can do to get more talented women and girls on the pitch so we can level the playing field once and for all.

Looking into the intersection of ecology, feminism and football

Climate change is a threat to football and football also adds to climate change, as the women's game is growing it is important that sustainability and eco-awareness and systems are not sacrificed during more consumption and coverage of the game.

Climate change will also effect women more compared to men, currently, all WSL & PL stadiums are over the limit of air pollutants, with one recorded being linked to miscarriages. In addition to this, with sea levels expected to rise and extreme weather, 25% of football pitches are at risk of being destroyed by flooding, as well as extreme heat making it uncomfortable and unsafe for players and fans.

The indented outcome of my research is to create my own climate awareness badges that I would like to be placed onto people's football shirts, as well as a captain armband that raises awareness of climate change as that is the only social issue that has not been promoted on the field

I am looking for people who would like to get involved in this project from interviews (gaining their perspective and experiences/anxieties) to a team / individual players that are up for having photographs taken with my final outcome/with my badges being used in a one off game).
